Bulk Import from Lists

Summary

This guide explains how to use the bulk import feature to create or update multiple records from a CSV file. The process applies to different list types in the platform (e.g., Users, Registrations).

Step-by-step Instructions

1) Prepare the import file

  • Open Excel or another spreadsheet tool.
  • Create a file containing the data to import, following the required structure for the data type (e.g., specific columns for users or registrations).
  • Save the file as CSV:
    • French version: use semicolon (;) as a separator.
    • English version: use comma (,) as a separator.

2) Import into a list

The process is similar for all lists, though the import button location may vary.

Example 1 – Bulk import of Users

  1. Go to the Users menu.
  2. Click the Import CSV button (top right of the list).
  3. Select the prepared CSV file and, if necessary, specify the separator (; or ,).
  4. Verify that the imported data displays correctly in the list.

Example 2 – Bulk import of Registrations

  1. Go to the Sessions menu.
  2. Open the Actions menu for the relevant session and select Import Registrations.
  3. Select the prepared CSV file and specify the separator.
  4. Verify that the registrations have been added to the session.

3) Best practices

  • Always check the file structure before importing to avoid errors.
  • If importing registrations, make sure the users already exist in the database.
  • Test with a small file before a large-scale import.

Tips / FAQs

  • The import button may be in the main list menu or in an item-specific Actions menu.
  • Use bulk import to save time when creating many records at once.
  • Incorrectly formatted data can block the entire import — check your CSV before starting.
